Tiffen 77HTCGND6 77MM Digital HT Grad ND 0.6 Titanium Filter Reviews
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Great Filter, November 3, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Tiffen 58HTCGND6 58MM Digital HT Grad ND 0.6 Titanium Filter (Electronics) This is a very high quality graduated neutral density filter with premium glass. I am a professional photographer and have owned dozens of filters over the years but since the advent of digital cameras and photoshop, I have tossed out every filter except the Grad ND and a polarizer. The grad filter proves invaluable for all kinds of subjects where the sky is way brighter than the rest of the scene. I use it for family portraiture all the time adnd every pro should use one of these to control exposure accross the scene. That being said, I have two gripes: First, there are no points on the edges to mark the center of the gradient, and once it's screwed onto the camera lens, its hard to tell where the gradient begins or ends. Consequently, I have marked the center-line edges with a dab of white-out for quick reference in the field. Second, the gradient seems to end abrublty half-way through the filter. It should be a gradual gradient from dark to light with no definite line down... Read more
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Good, but price is too expensive for its use, July 28, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Tiffen 72HTCGND6 72MM Digital HT Grad ND 0.6 Titanium Filter (Electronics) First of all, the filter is good for what it does: It helps to prevent excessive light on one half of side (top or bottom or your choice by rotating the front ring). This is helpful when you are trying to take photo with bright sky on upper half. That's all it is used for. There are few disadvantages. There are some vigination at wide angle (<28 mm or so). I have to zoom it above 28mm when I use it with 18-200mm Nikor lens that has another neutral filter attached.
Unless you are taking sunset or sunrise photo, it is not that great to use in midday as 0.6 grad is dark enough to prevent too much light from sky. You don't want to have too many of this expensive piece either just because you need more darker (stop down) glass. The quality is good, but it is only worth the money if you takes lot of picture during sunrise and sunset or sometime pictures with long exposure.
Tiffen HT Grad ND, October 6, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Tiffen 52HTCGND6 52MM Digital HT Grad ND 0.6 Titanium Filter (Electronics) Really nice filter, good fit and finish. FYI it comes with a (pretty nice) velcro soft pouch instead of the more common hard plastic cases. The product picture here on Amazon is a little misleading, as the transition from ND to clear is not quite as gradual as it appears in the picture. The picture on the Tiffen website shows the filter more accurately. Even so, the graduated ND effect is still pretty subtle.
